I had an interview with UiTM regarding the TESL foundation which went well as you can follow it on this post. UPSI has turned down my application. So, it's down to three options. Oh, and the IPG, I'm not listed for the recent UKCG qualification test. And I felt relieved for that, as there were 'ujian kecergasan' to be done, and as far as you know, this boy hasn't even stretched a muscle for the a few months since the big exam.
[Update: 18/3/2015]
I'm already in Semester 2 of Asasi TESL UiTM! Kyaaaa~~~ How time flies. Sorry if there's not much about the program I'm doing right now here. I'm quite busy considering it's almost the end of the semester, thus the whole foundation program. I'll keep updating about it from time to time. Thank you for reading this blog, everyone!
[Update: 15/4/2015]
Hey guys! Alhamdulillah, I'm finally done with my foundation program! Wuuuhuuu! It has been a great year, and I can't wait to share some stuffs with you guys so stay tuned here. And good luck to those who are going for the interview this weekend!
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Assalamualaikum.
Semua ni bermula pada bulan Disember 2013, aku mula isi borang permohonan aku kat UPU sebagaimana kebanyakan lepasan SPM batch aku buat.
So, I'm gonna stick to those factors and principles as I gathered all my confidence by filling the first 4 choices out of 8 provided, with TESLs and English courses.
First of all, for those who are unfamiliar about what does the TESL acronym itself means. It's
Teaching English as a Second Language
Firstly, there were three choice of field that we wanted to be enrolled into. There were couple of options, but I simply set my eyes on 'Pendidikan', 'Bahasa' and 'Pengajian Islam'. I wanted to choose linguistics because that's what I'm good at. The third one was a safe option because I'm not prefer to choose fields related to engineering, mechanical, medical, science etc. because I'm simply not good at it. Then, moving on to the courses...
Apparently, there were only 4 offers given:
- Asasi TESL - UiTM (Universiti Teknologi Mara)
- Asasi Bahasa Inggeris - UIAM (Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia)
- Diploma TESL - UNISZA (Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin)
- Diploma Bahasa Inggeris - UPSI (Universiti Perguruan Sultan Idris)
Well, aku mengaku memang rasa bersalah sebab cuma isi 4 pilihan je. But that's the only choices I had. It's all related to my SPM result. Bila aku kandas kat subjek-subjek sains dan hebat kat subjek-subjek teras dan bahasa, that had me thinking. I'm no science man, I'm a language man.
And yes, sepanjang-panjang tahun aku belajar subjek-subjek sains (the killer trio: FIZIK, KIMIA, BIOLOGI) and not to mention, the ridiculously difficult ADDITIONAL MATHEMATICS, I had but only one conclusion:
.... AKU TAK FAHAM SATU APA PUN.
Sorry teachers! -____-"
That's the main reason and only reason why I choose TESL as my utmost option to continue my studies in IPTA. Not only that, I even applied for the 'Institusi Perguruan' in the UKCG (Ujian Kelayakan Calon Guru) programme, and guess what I chose for the options: BM & BI. (although the UKCG is a programme where the graduates will end up becoming a primary teacher. but still. a TEACHER. heck yeah, i applied)
Now, I should tell you readers about my SPM result. It wasn't good afterall. No flying colours, except for 'colourful' grades on my result paper. It's like all the grades available in the system (except B, E & G) were there.
Official result: 1 A+, 1 A, 2 A-, 3 C+, 2 D
And that kids, is why I choose TESL as my primary option in the UPU. Well, hopefully I get to pursue my dream of becoming a teacher after this. For your information, as I pen this down, the UPU is still in process, so I don't put high hopes on the results, but I've seen some light shed and I think the chances are on my side this time.
Peace out.

ReplyDeletehi!! i'm applying for upu too right now and i've narrowed it down to find out that there are only four courses available for teaching english, just like you did!! what a coincidence :D how are you these days? i'll just see the rest of your blog before i ask you what you're doing lol
ReplyDeleteHi! Well, yesterday I just finished my final exam! Thank God everything is fine. I'll try to update more about this course here.
DeleteThe reason I do this is because I want to help those who are interested to be here but lack of info about it. I faced this when I'm about to go into this program. There's not much of info about it.
Well, no worries with your choices. You chose wisely, I must say. Do ask me anything if in doubt, and thank you too!
you're so lucky to get your first choice!!
ReplyDeleteHi.. thank you for sharing your experience. It help us especially for TESL student/interview's candidate
ReplyDeleteHi. Thank you too for reading! I'm glad that I can help. I wish you all the best for the interview and hopefully you get to be in the foundation program! :D
DeleteAssalamualaikum and hi! I bet you must be in degree studies, right? I just want to ask the details abt degree in tesl, which means what kind of topic do we learn, and so on. Did you interviewed before entering tesl's degree? If yes and you don't mind, can you share a lil bit experience to me, since I chose tesl in ukm as a first choice in upu. Thank you😀
DeleteWaalaikumussalam.
DeleteYes, I'm currently in my 4th semester, taking Bachelor's Degree of English Language with Communication in UniSZA. I did applied for degree in TESL, but I didn't pass the MEdSI test and the interview. You can read more about this here: https://theikhmalzikry.blogspot.my/2016/01/tamatnya-asasi-nak-ke-mana-pula-medsi.html
As I've said, I didn't get to be in TESL degree. But, as far as I've being informed from my friends who are doing their degree in TESL, the subjects are more to the technicalities of English (phonology and phonetics, morphology, syntax, semantics etc.) and also English-related subjects like psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics etc, as well as the important subjects of teaching like research methodology, principles of education etc. The main idea of degree in TESL is to teach future teachers and educators on how to teach students English properly.
Frankly, that's all that I had to say about degree in TESL.
Good luck to your future endeavours! :)
Hey, hi! Thank you for sharing this. This year, I'm going to sit for SPM lulz. I've been thinking about choosing TESL later since I was in Form 4. Any tips on how to speak English fluently (with full of confidence, ya know) and how to boost our vocabulary up? ;_; Looking forward for your next update about TESL.
ReplyDeleteHi there! Wow, that's great for you. I literally know the existence of this course just after SPM.
Delete- Try to speak it daily, use it in everyday conversations, with your friends, families, teachers.
- Read more English novels or books
- Try to watch English movies or TV shows without using the subtitles
- Use simple sentences and words while speaking
- Believe in yourself if you can write well in English, you can also speak well
- Look up the definition of words in dictionary
These are my suggestions. I hope it helps you in a way. :)
hi there..i really need ur help now..can u give me exmple resume for intrview tesl at upsi.. i really need it..:"(
ReplyDeleteHi there, sorry for the late reply but I don't know how to write a resume for iv tesl at upsi since I've never been there before. Really sorry.
DeleteI've got A- for bi and E for biology and addmath..did the grade E affect my option in TESL..adakah TESL mengambil Kira subjek lain
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure kalau it can affect your entry to this program, tapi as far as I know, these are the 'syarat kemasukan'.
Delete- Minimum 5 kepujian (B+, B, C+, C) including Bahasa Malaysia
- Minimum A- in English
- Minimum kepujian Mathematics / Add Maths
- Lulus ujian bertulis & temuduga
I can see that you said you got an E for add math. So I can't say sure about this, but do give it a try! Who knows, maybe ada rezeki dapat masuk.
Bro? Saya dah isi diploma bi di upsi . After grad n nak smbg degree nanti boleh ke nk amik degree tesl? Sbb tu diploma bi bkn pengkhususan mcm asasi tesl ke apa. Boleh kan?
ReplyDeleteThen. Kalau saya nk jadi pensyarah bi di ipta/ipts boleh ceritakan sampai kemana saya perlu sambung belajar.? (Master/phd)
Last.. berapa tahun saya perlu smbg bljr utk jadi seorg lecture?
Thank u .
So plan bebetul nak amik degree TESL kat mana, sebab bukan satu je universiti kat Malaysia yang offer degree TESL.
Delete2) Nak jadi pensyarah BI kenalah amik master in any English course (TESL / English / Literature etc).
Terpulanglah.
(Nak kata banyak pasal ni tak sure gak, sebab diri sendiri masih dalam program degree. Ni banyak tanya-tanya kawan. :D)
3) Master dalam 2-3 tahun je. PhD pulak depends kepada orang tu, kalau dia buat pembelajaran jarak jauh, boleh 3-4 tahun jugak. So total, dalam 5-7 tahun la. Tapi ada juga sesetengah universiti (macam kat atas tadi), amik lepasan Master jadi lecturer kalau result cemerlang. So PhD boleh buat sewaktu dia jadi lecturer. :)
Ok. Thanks for the respond . Tapi masa isi upu haritu . Diploma tesl ni ada interview.
DeleteBoleh ceritakan secara menyeluruh interview diploma in tesl ni? Sbb sy mmg xtahu apa2.
So interview dia ni mcm mana? I means apa yg perlu saya prepare(current issues k apa). Selalunya dia tnya apa je bro?
Selalunya, temuduga ni sama je tak kiralah kos diploma ke asasi ke degree ke. So generally, dia akan tanya tentang background kita (nama, asal, umur) untuk warm-up dulu. Then dia akan buka soalan-soalan macam kenapa awak minat bahasa inggeris (tapi of course dia tanya dalam english la), macam mana nak pupuk minat kepada bahasa inggeris, apa pandangan awak tentang .... dan sebagainya.
DeleteSoalan-soalan ni kadangkala banyak yang nak "memerangkap" kita, sebab almaklumlah siapa je tak nervous time interview kan, so mesti calon banyak tersasul. Contoh soalan "perangkap" ni, bila dia tanya apa hobi awak, kalau kita jawab hobi saya membaca, nanti dia tanya lagi, what kinds of books do you read, how much do you read a day, do you read often at home, dan semua tu. Haaaaa...
Current issues pun dia akan tanya gak, tapi tak begitu detail la. Mostly sebab nak test je how are you going to explain things like an event or a news. What kind of choice of word yang calon akan guna, ayatnya macam mana, grammar and all that. Itu je.
Kalau nak tanya how was my interview, bacalah kat sini: http://theikhmalzikry.blogspot.my/2014/04/pengalaman-temuduga-asasi-tesl.html
Boleh juga search kat google ke mana-mana. Ada je. :)

ReplyDeleteHello there ! I jusy read your article , and im having so much trouble in choosing the best courses . I decided earlier to go on with tesl but idont think my english is that strong ! I only scored an A for my SPM and quite fortunate to be graded A1 for my essay . Do u think i can go on with tesl?
ReplyDeleteHi there! That's great, you got A for SPM. If you wanted to go for it, just go. English skills can be developed over time, but as long as you're okay and comfortable taking English courses, just go for it. Don't hesitate and worry too much. :)
DeleteAssalamualaikum bang, i applied tesl for my first choice in upu and hoping to get the interview later. Therefore i have a few questions to ask;
ReplyDelete1) if i failed the interview, wont i get the chance to reapplied tesl course and they will just proceed to my next choice in upu?
2) since all the foundations course are now in Dengkil, that means they will only be surrounded by foundation people? Heheh. And too bad its no longer in shah alam :((
3) i have a macbook air, is that okay for me to use in uitm later? (If i ever get chosen, amin) because some said that Apple brand is fine, of course, but the system doesnt really work in some tasks, which is why it is better to buy a laptop that is not an Apple brand. Is it true? Does that means i have to buy another laptop?
4) is there any students, throughout the year, does not have a laptop? - can i bring a printer as soon as i passed the interview and confirmed to be a tesl student? Or do i have to wait until the MDS is over?
5) do Teslians have fun too? Because you know, they only have a year which is kinda fast so do you guys had free time to be with friends and family, and all that kind of stuffs, while being stuck with assignments to do so?
Thank you in advance for replying bang, may god bless you. And im so sorry for any grammar mistakes :)
Waaalaikumussalam.
Delete1) Let's say it is the worst scenario ever (which I hope it won't become reality, InshaAllah): you failed your asasi TESL interview. That's okay, you still got your next choices, but now you only got chances to be certain diploma courses that requires no interview before entering. As far as I know, almost all foundation courses and some diploma courses requires asasi TESL. But if you fail one interview, you won't be given a second chance to be interviewed (there's not much time). UPU result usually comes out in mid-May and most interviews are usually done in April.
Nevertheless, have faith and stay strong. You can only know if you flunked your interview, ONLY after the result came out. Like you said, you applied asasi TESL, so later on perhaps you got the interview and done it all. But then when the result came out, you get a different course. Then only you know you failed the interview. My advice is to not feel down when knowing this and stay strong no matter what. Okay? :)
2) Yup. Right now, the first batch to be in Dengkil are your seniors, batch 2015/2016. Yours will be batch 2016/2017. (Wow just how fast time passed by). I was in batch 2014/2015, so I still have the experience being in Shah Alam.
DeleteBefore this, all asasi TESL students were placed either in Kuantan, Lendu, or Shah Alam. Right now I'm doing my degree in UniSZA Terengganu, and I've met all students from these 3 places. It's fun hearing stories from their place, and sharing stuffs from mine.
Then yeah, they moved the course to Dengkil, which as you might already know, is the UiTM centre for all four foundation courses: TESL, Law, Science and Engineering. That's all. No diplomas, no degrees, which I think is great. You don't have to feel pressured with their presence. You don't have to fight over whose going to use which classroom / hall.
3) Well, if you're okay using it, I guess it would be just fine. I had a lot of friends using Macbook Air back when I'm in Shah Alam, and they're doing just fine. Of course, Apple don't have Microsoft Office like other brands of laptop do, so it's quite difficult when doing group projects like presentation and stuff. It is true that Apple products are not quite compatible with other brands. But Apple products are way more advanced than those products. So it has its pros and cons. It all depends on you, frankly. If you're okay with your Macbook, I think it's gonna be fine. I would say to get a new one, but who am I to say that you, right? You decide. :D
4) Yes, there are students that don't have laptops. But then again, they will have difficult times to do their assignments (believe me, there's gonna be A LOT of them). I mean yeah, you can borrow your friend's but you're not gonna borrow it like EVERY SINGLE TIME, am I right? :)
DeleteYou can bring your printer but just wait until after MDS. But be prepared, like I said. More assignments = more things to print. And finding a printer shop there might be a task. Most students prefer to use their friend's printer. My suggestion would be if you wanna do business, you can start your own printer business.
I can guarantee 100% people will come to your room as soon as they found out you have a printer. Sooner or later. :D
5) Well, if you're referring to fun in the campus, oooh there's a lot of fun things going on. Especially for TESL students. There's gonna be drama and theatre performance. Presentations can be a lot of fun, not just simply reading your slides in front. You will do a lot of speeches too.
DeleteThere's a stereotype going on in universities, though: the loudest and most supportive people are those from TESL / English courses. No matter which university you are.
You can go home once a week (if your house is quite near to the campus, because you know, the transportation cost and all that). But believe me, one year, it seems like a short period time, but you're gonna have so much fun.
Most recently, last 2 weeks, the TESL batch currently in Dengkil done their literary night called Glow Dengkil where they perform dramas, arts and literature stuffs while having fun.
I guess it's best to say, being a TESLian is way more enjoyable, despite the abundance of work, compared to Law students (they're so gonna have a lot of stress, even a lot more than TESL students). You'll see.
I hope you will manage to get a place in Asasi TESL. May all hopes and dreams come true. You have a very good English. You're welcome. :D
P/S: If you're on twitter, search for the hashtag #GlowDGKL for that last event I told you. :)
DeleteOmg thank you so much for the long great explanation! It helps a lot for people like me :'') how old are you now abg? Oh, i applied tesl in unisza too in my upu :)) one more question, is it necessary for the malay girls to wear tudung there?
DeleteI'm 20 y/o. :)
DeleteIf you're talking about is it necessary for malay girls to wear tudung in UiTM, I would say it depends, as long as you're okay with it.
If in UniSZA, I'd say you'll have to, since UniSZA is the 3rd Islamic university in Malaysia.
Ur result just same like mine :) super good in all subjek teras and super bad in all my science subjek. I got 1A+ 1A*which is english subject 3A- 2c+ 1D and 1E . I choose asasi tesl as my first choice . Do u thnk i will be call for the iv session ?
ReplyDeleteMost probably, you would. Do have faith on it and also a backup plan, okay? :)
DeleteI also happen to pick UiTM's TESL as my primary choice in the UPU sheet. I don't want to take it at face value because I don't necessarily want a job as an educator- to be honest, I enjoy the literature side of English and hope to open my own publishing company (HUGE dreams, I know). I would just like to know the difference between TESL and the English Language Course, and if the latter offers a broader network of prospective careers. Any answers are more than appreciated. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteWell, you were right about the latter offers a broader network of prospective careers. Being TESL would specifically land you a job in the teaching profession. (The T in TESL means teaching, so yeah). However, if you're in any English language course, like communication, literature etc, you still can teach or you can choose a whole lot more careers, including, like you said yourself, opening your very own publishing company. :)
Deletethank you for your superb explanation about TESL,it help me a lot..saya ada apply course diploma in tesl kat unisel,,so hari tu ada dpt utk mac intake, cuma saya tak pergi atas sebab dia takda bagi bantuan,so nnti saya kena apply utk may intake, diplma in tesl..adakah subjek Tesl sangat membantu dlm bidang kerjaya akan datang?dan cara pembelajaran dia seronok tak?sbb ada blog2 yg saya baca, they have to acting in drama lessons, literature and so on,so mcm saya ni spm haritu BI dapat B+,meyakinkan ke utk saya apply TESL?salah satu sebab saya apply tesl, saya minat english, dan results saya pun mcm awk, science saya kecundang,so saya cuma boleh nmpk english je dpt bntu masa dpn saya,do you i think go in tesl?;)
Even business pun boleh jugak sebenarnya.
DeletePembelajaran dia sangatlah seronok. Seronok memang seronok, tapi tak terlalu susah, tak terlalu senang. Dan biasalah, kalau dalam bidang bahasa Inggeris ni memang ada belajar berlakon, buat drama / teater, sastera, tulis sajak poem semua tu.
Jangan risau kalau awak rasa tak mampu atau tak cukup fasih berbahasa Inggeris, sebab yang masuk kos TESL ni bukan anak mat saleh. Orang kita-kita juga. Kalau ada pun, taklah ramai sangat.
Pendek kata, TESL sangat membantu, plan your future right, just go for it. All the best. :)
to act**
DeleteKalau memang berminat nak mendalami bidang bahasa Inggeris, bolehlah mohon ke degree in TESL (kalau nak jadi cikgu), deg. in Literature (kalau nak amik sastera), atau English Communication.
thank you!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. Good luck! :)
DeleteSalam abg Ikhmal mcm mana nak tahu kalau kita dipanggil interview TESL ni? sbb Hana mohon TESL dan nak buat semakan dkt uitm tapi xkuar pulak. Abg Ikhmal dpt panggilan interview dr email ke?
ReplyDeleteWassalam. Kalau nak check temuduga ni kena tunggu hebahan / pengumuman dari pihak UiTM. Nanti dorang akan bagi tarikh untuk check, then go to the website to check dapat iv ke tak, kat mana, pukul berapa etc. Buat masa ni takde apa-apa lagi kat situ, but just to make sure, keep checking that website and be alert ok. http://online.uitm.edu.my/index.cfm
DeleteKita hanya akan panggilan interview from that website je. Kita yang akan check sendiri. So tunggu je la ye. Good luck! :)

ReplyDeleteOh I'm so sorry, but unfortunately asasi intake for UiTM is only open once a year. No worries tho, you might still have a chance to be in other courses that you set as your second or third options. Or if you have already chosen any TESL programmes in other universities, you might also stand a chance to be in one of them too.
DeleteGood luck. :)
This comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteWell, right now there's not much time to be in foundation courses cause most foundation courses have interview to catch on and it's already 2 months before the June intake. So you can start looking at TESL diploma programs like the ones in UniSZA or KPTM.
DeleteEven if you get other courses (like for instance, you pointed out you prioritized business courses), if you really insist for TESL, diplomas are at the moment, one of the good choices cause you can refuse the offer they gave you for June intake and go for rayuan and register for TESL diplomas. However, it's not encourage tho.
Or, you can go still go for matriculation or any foundation courses that you've already signed up for, then go for one full year before registering TESL as your option in degree. Still works but yeah, the struggle.
All in all, I wish you all the best! :)

DeleteIkhmal. Did you get A+ for english in SPM? I got A for english. And i apply Asasi bahasa Inggeris,TESL uitm, Upsi. Tesl uitm ada temuduga kan. But saya mohon komunikasi & media dekat UITM ada temuduga jugak. And saya dapat gi temuduga komunikasi dan media. Am i still have a chance for temuduga tesl uitm? Minat sangat bahasa inggeris :(
ReplyDeleteHi there.
Delete- No, I get the same as yours too. Hehehe
Macam kes awak ni, sorry to say this but takde peluang untuk masuk asasi tesl UiTM, since UiTM dah bagi awak temuduga untuk komunikasi dan media. However, if you really wanted to be TESL / English course, you can choose untuk tak pergi temuduga tu, and see if you get the courses that you applied (you mentioned abt asasi BI & UPSI kan?). Tu je lah caranya setakat ni.
I wish you all the best in your life. Don't be disappointed. Surely Allah has bigger plans for you in future. Maybe boleh masuk join mana-mana asasi atau diploma, then go for TESL masa degree nanti. Good luck. :)
So, if saya tak pergi temuduga komunikasi media (sebab tak minat) adakah bulan 5 masa keputusan UPU nanti saya berpeluang dapat masuk asasi U lain? Because semalam just tarikh keputusan temuduga. Thirdly, ikhmal lepas lulus tesl ikhmal tak dapat offer dari U lain la eh? masa bulan 5 keputusan upu.
ReplyDeleteOh tak perasan ada secondly. Hahaha ok2 sorry. 😂😂
Delete- Like I said above, kalau tak pergi temuduga tu sebab tak minat, ada peluang lagi untuk join asasi U lain.
- Alhamdulillah masa dah lepas interview and lepas keputusan UPU keluar, memang dapat masuk asasi TESL UiTM. I got a few friends that I've met masa iv tu yang tak dapat asasi TESL, but instead dapat course lain. Tapi, once I already got asasi TESL UiTM, memang tak dapatlah kos U lain. Point is, jangan kecewa kalau tak dapat apa yang kita nak. Instead, lapangkan dada dan kalau boleh go with apa yang dioffer masa keputusan UPU tu, just go. Kalau tak, you can always go for rayuan UPU. Tepuk dada tanya selera, sebab hal ehwal mengisi dan menunggu UPU ni bukan di peringkat lepasan SPM je, nanti nak masuk degree pun benda sama je. So yeah, be patient and good luck ye! :)
Assalamualaikum abg ikhmal. I've read your article and thanks god it really helps me a lot!. So I have few questions to ask you if you don't mind. I've been offered an iv in tesl in upsi this 18th April so I would like to know if the result will come out on the same day or need to wait for several weeks same date as the upu results? And I would love to know if during the iv can I ask the interviewers to repeat the questions again? Then I have read some blogs regarding to the question that been asked by the interviewers and some of them asked in malay so do I need to reply them in malay if they asked me in malay? Hope you can answer my questions. Thank you (:
ReplyDeleteWaalaikumussalam. Congratulations! :D
Delete1. If you're referring about your interview result, then the answer is yes. It comes out the same day as your UPU result. If you get the course that you interviewed, it means you passed the interview. If you got something else, it means you failed the interview.
2. You can, but ask politely. "I'm sorry, can you repeat the questions again?" "My apologies / I beg your pardon / pardon me..." But don't do this too often in your interview. It may affect your interview session. They might also think you have bad listening skills too.
3. If they asked in Malay, surely you can answer in Malay too. But if you ever feel hesitated, ask them if you may answer in Malay first.
Hope these would be helpful. Good luck to you! :)
Hey there. I'm just completed my stpm. Now I'm applying degree in tesl at ukm. I've got band 4 for muet and 3.42 for my cgpa. Do you think it'll be enough to get me in? Since I'm a lady, I'm sure there'll be a lot of competition. Please help me with this.
ReplyDeleteHey there. I'm not so sure about the requirements tho. Try check it again with UKM's website and see if you passed it. But all in all, it depends on the UPU system. I can't say for sure if you'll get to be in the course, even if you passed all the requirements. Bottomline, be positive and pray a lot. Don't get too disappointed with whatever you got later instead of TESL. I wish you all the best for this and your future. Good luck! :)
DeleteP/S: I've already checked the requirements to be in TESL in UKM.

So, may I ask if you've already taken the medsi test before?
Hi,abang.Saya dapat pergi interview dekat upsi, 20/4 ni untuk diploma in English. Saya mcm lah nak tanya banyak sangat soalan since tak banyak bloggers yang update psal interview dip in English dekat upsi. I've been reading your blog posts since last year but unfortunately I didn't pass for the foundation interview in uitm. Soalanya berbunyi begini 😂😂😂
ReplyDelete1.
2. Between objective and the essay writing, yang mana kena bagi tumpuan yg lebih?
3. Any tips on how to do well in my oral test? Because sometimes, I could talk faster than God knows who.
Okay, yang tu sajalah kot soalanya. Taktahu nak tanya since kepala dah macam apa ja. And sorrylah sebab tanya pasal upsi instead of uitm 😅
Hai! Hihihi :D
Delete1) Tak sure lah about the interview in UPSI (I heard dorang guna Malay instead of English, but I don't know, maybe just rumours), sebab tak pernah dapat UPSI pun. Tapi kalau bab soalan interview ni, mostly akan tanya background kita sedikit sebanyak, kenapa minat bidang bahasa Inggeris, kenapa berminat nak jadi tenaga pengajar (cikgu/lecturer etc), soalan tentang isu semasa (terutamanya dalam bidang pendidikan) dan ada lah 2-3 soalan tentang hobi ke apa-apa ke.
2. Dua-dua kena focus, sebab the interviewer nak tengok how do you respond to a written test (nak tengok your level of reading and writing in English punya skills) and to an interview (your speaking, listening skills).
3. Try to speak fluently, clearly. You can talk faster but make sure other people can get what you mean. Be polite, let them finish their sentence, ask politely if you missed a question or a word. Be confident but not too confident.
Hope these are helpful sebab honestly, memang tak pernah masuk UPSI. But I'm sure these can provide you a thought about this whole thing. Good luck! :)
Awwww, thank you!
DeleteAssalammualaikum Abang Ikhmal. Saya nak tanya ni. Adakah saya layak masuk ke UniSZA & mengambil jurusan Diploma English TESL? Keputusan SPM tahun lepas saya dapat 2A, 4B, 1C & 1E. Saya daripada aliran Sastera. A untuk SN. A- untuk English. B+ untuk Bahasa Melayu & Pendidikan Seni Visual. B untuk Sejarah & Pendidikan Islam. C+ untuk Perdagangan & E for Matematik.
Ni nak habaq sikit (haa dah keluar utagha... hahaha), kursus-kursus bahasa Inggeris ni tak tengok subjek sains atau matematik semua tu. At least dapat D pun masih berpeluang, asalkan bahasa Inggeris tu cemerlang. Hatta dapat B sekalipun. (Tapi terpulang jugak kepada syarat minimum kemasukan universiti tu, tapi generally begitulah). Jadi toksah risau sangat kalau tak dapat sebab keputusan Matematik tu, sebab kalau awak baca balik kat atas, saya punya keputusan Matematik waktu SPM pun tak seberapa.
Lagi satu, bila dah masuk kos bahasa inggeris nanti (Insya-Allah), kita dah tak belajar dah subjek sains dan matematik semua tu. Kita belajar subjek bahasa Inggeris tu sendiri (grammar, writing, listening, speaking) termasuklah sastera, drama dan sebagainya. Itu je. Susah tu tak susah sangat, senang pun taklah senang sangat.
Saya bagitau abang. :D

ReplyDeleteAssalamualaikum bg. Sya hrp abg dpt jwb soalan sya nie.
ReplyDelete1. Sya dpt ipta mchinical engineering diploma. Tp dlm msa sma sya dpt asasi tesl unisel. Semiprivate. And i prefer to take foundation tesl. Pda pndgan abg ok x unisel??
2.sekiranya sya hbis foundation nnti ada x pluang sya smbung degree d ipta??
3.sya minat english tp sgt sgt x minat jdi guru :'( ada x krjya lain??
Tq. Sya hrp sgt soalan sya dijwb
Waalaikumussalam. Maaf lambat ye, sebab baru mula cuti semester.
Delete1.
Harap dapat membantu ye! :)
Assalamualaikum..bang nak tanya syarat kemasukan tesl di semua universiti sama ke lain2..and apakah syarat yg diperlukan untuk ambil course ni..tq..
ReplyDeleteWaalaikumussalam. Minta maaf sangat-sangat terlepas pandang komen awak ni. Tak semua syarat kemasukan TESL ni sama di semua universiti. Untuk asasi TESL UiTM, awak boleh semak di selangkah.uitm.edu.my ataupun asasi.uitm.edu.my.
DeleteHai... Nak tanya.... Terima kasih...
ReplyDeleteHai. Boleh je. :)
DeleteTahniah tulisan anda banyak membantu.
DeleteHello there. I've got few quetions to ask.
ReplyDelete1) Firstly,I got 3A, 2B,2C, 1D and 1E for my spm result recently, do you think I stand a chance in taking Tesl?(I've just checked the "syarat kemasukan ke IPTA" and it says that I'm qualified to take Tesl but I'm still not sure).
2)Secondly, after I take Tesl, can I choose law to further my studies? how? (please explain)
3) Lastly, what if I didn't get to take Tesl? Is there any other way for me to take Law? I'm confused between stpm and Tesl. My family doesn't approve me to take stpm since stpm is very hard. Please please reply and help me. tq.
Hello there. So sorry for the late reply. I've been busy with final exams and assignments for the past few months.
Delete1) I'm pretty sure by now you've already figured this out.
2) Sure can. After foundation, you'll need to apply UPU again for degree intake. The procedure is similar to after-SPM UPU application. Just fill in the options with your preferred choice, and wait (and pray) and see if the system lets you to be into your preferred course (depends on the availability, the quota set by the university, your results etc.)
3) STPM is kinda hard for you to get to law. It's either you apply for asasi TESL or asasi undang-undang (both UiTM) and later settle for law degree once you finished the foundation course.
Again, I'm sorry for the late reply and I'm not sure if you are in asasi TESL right now. Do let me know ASAP, alright?
:)
Wow!!! Thanks bro sbb share detail yg memang berguna. So now..im going to apply TESL. You've inspired me
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. Glad that I could help. Good luck! :)
DeleteAssalamualaikum. Nak tnye bang, kuota upu yg 3 kali tu still valid lg ke smpai sekarang (2017)? Sebab baru2 ni nak update xboleh bukak, jd ada cara lain x nak bukak upu sy tuh? Lepastu kalau first choice dlm upu tu kene reject, other choices tu akan dconsider lagi ke atau satu kene reject, smua sekaligus pn sama? Thank you in advance :)
ReplyDeleteWassalam.
assalamualaikum .. i've been reading your posts almost everyday due to i'm way too nervous because this weekend i will go to uitm machang for my asasi tesl iv. and your post really really helpful and i've got some ideas on how to answer the qs. i'm quite concern about the writing test..but just hoping for the best. :) keep on posting good information like you always do.. and thank you. ^_^
ReplyDeleteWaalaikumussalam. I'm so sorry for the late reply. I hope you did well, and by now, you get to be in the course. If not, then I wish you all the best with your endeavours. :)
Deleteassalammualaikum... i really appreciate it if u reply this question ....
ReplyDeletei ve been wondering if the students of foundation tesl in uitm get an allowances ? or need to get loan ??
Adik pernah dengar mengenai diploma english communication di kpm...jika ambil course ni anak akak boleh tak further study di mana2 ipta nanti?
ReplyDeleteAssalamualaikum, saya nak tanya..
ReplyDelete1)apa beza asasi/diploma tesl, diploma in english, dan diploma english communication?
2)kalau saya ambil diploma in english kt upsi atau diploma english communication kt kpm, bolehkah saya smbung ke degree tesl pulak nanti?
3)macam mana laluan untuk jadi guru dgn degree tesl?
Waalaikumussalam
Asasi - 1 tahun
Diploma - 3/4 tahun
• TESL - belajar cara nak mengajar / jadi cikgu / tenaga pengajar
• English Communication - sama macam English, dgn tambahan cara berkomunikasi dengan orang seperti cara bermesyuarat, buat surat menyurat, perhubungan awam, hubungan korporat (ringkasnya hal-hal dalam pejabat/korporat)
Hanya TESL yang melatih pelajar menjadi cikgu. Selain TESL, tiada subjek khas tentang menjadi cikgu.
Persamaannya, kesemua asasi/diploma TESL, English & English Comm akan ada subjek-subjek berteraskan bahasa Inggeris (linguistics), contohnya:
• grammar (tatabahasa)
• phonetics and phonology (kajian bunyi dalam bahasa)
• morphology (kajian pembentukan perkataan)
• syntax (sintaksis/kajian pembentukan ayat)
• semantics (kajian makna)
Selebihnya kita serah pada-Nya.
Dah macam tazkirah pulak, tapi itulah hakikatnya.
Kita hanya mampu merancang, tapi Tuhan yang menentukan.
:)
3) Saya kurang pasti mengenai jawapan yang tepat untuk soalan ni, memandangkan saya sendiri tak ambil degree TESL. Harap maaf ya. 😅
Deleteassalammualaikum bang.
ReplyDeletei'm an SPM candidate this year and i got high passion in english. hehe
so saya rasa saya nak amek TESL lah bang. abang ada suggestion tak laluan yang mudah, i mean after SPM ni (Kalau result baik) dekat mana je boleh amek TESL?
lagipun saya pun tak hebat bab bab subjek account economy dgn sains teras yang saya amek ni. edmet pulak gagal manjang.
ada harapan tak bang? hahahahaha
Alhamdulillah bcs saya nmpk blogger ni. Actually my problem just same as yours. Science student's but lebih kepada bidang bahasa. Lagi lagi spm candidate. So you really inspired me to focus more on what I love to do. Thanks a lot and may allah bless you man.
ReplyDeletePs: can u tell me your perkembangan in TESL?
saya agak ragu ragu bcs ramai student yang ambil bidang bahasa.
Alhamdulillah. For now, unfortunately, I did not manage to get a place in TESL degree. But I'm now in my 3rd year in UniSZA, taking Bachelor's Degree (Ijazah Sarjana Muda) English with Communication.
DeleteAt first, I was quite disappointed, but nonetheless, I'm still grateful dapat tempat in uni. And to be honest, the course that I'm taking right now tak lari mana pun dari TESL. Still the same thing, just tak dapat jadi cikgu je. Cumanya, the course I'm taking has a much wider scope - boleh jadi lecturer, author, translator, public relations officer etc. So many things you can do.
I even have my close friends which were from matriculation colleges and STPM, and they share similar passion as I am. So no worries. InsyaAllah.

ReplyDeleteHi, my dotter just got an offer for tesl unisza. Can u tell what is the challenges for the course?
ReplyDeleteHi. Saya baru habis SPM tahun 2018. Nak tanya, saya berminat sangat nk masuk bidang Linguistic.
DeleteAssalamualaikum. Saya bercadang nak ambil dip english comm tu sbb saya tak nk jadi cg and I think english comm is better for me. Banyak ke peluang pekerjaan for those yg ambil english? Is it okay for me yang tak tahu nak kerja apa untuk ambil english? Saya pon sama mcm abang when it comes to science subjects.
ReplyDeleteWassalam, kalau berkenaan kerja related to English ni banyak je other than cikgu. Boleh jadi translator, proofreader, editor, copywriter, advertiser, journalist, columnist, the list goes on... Tapi market/employability for towards urban areas and more among private sectors la. Tapi tak bermakna takde dalam sektor kerajaan. Cuma kena pandai market yourself and pandai cari peluang kerjaya.
DeleteOh, and tak boleh assume bidang English ni bidang yang siapa2 je boleh masuk (means yg takde skill senang je nak masuk). English itself is a language and kena ada various sets of skills (communication, interpersonal, etc) utk make yourself stand out than others in order to succeed. So keep that it mind je. :D
Hai abang, saya ada mohon asasi tesl kat UiTM and at the same time saya mohon jugak dekat Unisza diploma tesl. Do you think which one is better, diploma or asasi?
ReplyDeleteHello sya nak tnya.. Sy pelajar STPM ada ambil MUET.. Dapat jga Band 4..Syukur.. Planning nak masuk amik TESL dkat UM tpi syarat minimum dÃa SPM BI kena A.. Tpi sy hnya dpt A- je.. Mmg btul2 dah xda peluang lgi ke tu? Hopefully bleh reply soon! Thanks..
ReplyDeleteapa beza Dip TESL dgn Dip Bahasa Inggeris ?
ReplyDeletei was also aiming for uitm tesl actually..however i think i made a mistake of not making that as my number one choice in upu,(instead it was uia for english foundation and international communication foundation as scond). and yeah dumbass me did'nt pass the first phase and now i don't seem to have a chance for tesl there anymore.
ReplyDeleteconclusion; think twice or more on what to put as your first choice
Dari diploma komunikasi boleh ke TESL ke?
ReplyDelete
