Tamatnya Asasi, Nak Ke Mana Pula? (Medsi, MUET etc)

Assalamualaikum and hello everyone. It's 2016!

Niat di hati dah lama nak sambung menulis kat blog ni, tapi banyak sangat distractions sampai tak sempat nak taip apa-apa. Adalah sekali dua tu jenguk-jenguk blog ni, melayan komen-komen pembaca sekalian. Alhamdulillah, banyak soalan bernas diutarakan tentang program asasi TESL ni.

Ni susunan pilihan-pilihan aku masa kemaskini pertama UPU.
Aku tak ubah pun masa kemaskini kedua. Hihihihi

*Gambar ni kecil, nak tengok besar sikit, klik lah! XD*

*Kalau nak apply kos ijazah kat UM kena isi dekat website dorang, not through UPU. This is a new initiative they started last year, so kalau nak, you guys can go here: https://www.um.edu.my/enroll-now. For more info, go to their main website: http://um.edu.my

Jadi, apa lagi kita nak kena buat lepas isi borang online UPU?

Consider MUET as your own responsibility.

*Harap maaf tentang kualiti gambar*

Nak semak tentang pengumuman pendaftaran, pusat ujian & keputusan kat sini: http://www.upsi.edu.my/kemasukan/medsi/ (buat masa ni, takde apa-apa lagi)

All the best to you!

Tepuk dada tanya selera ye semua! :)

Asasi TESL Results (A Satisfying End)

Alhamdulillah, all praises to God....

Hello there, readers. I'm pretty sure it has been a while since I posted something here. And I've been wanting to do so, but I've been also busy helping my mom. Y'know, just to fill up all the times I have right now until September.

But, helping my mom is not the only thing I'm doing right now. Last week, I finally (sebab suka sangat procrastinate, lulz) submitted my resume and letter to apply the 'Guru Sandaran/Guru Ganti/Guru Sementara' position to the district education office (PPD). Unfortunately, once I have submitted it to the clerk over the counter, he said that the 'Guru Sandaran' position is no longer available, and the other positions are for now being halted due to limited expense provided by the government to pay those teachers. Nevertheless, he took my documents and said that there's probably a slight chance that I may become one, if there is 'rezeki'. Well, I hope so. My friends have become a teacher in a secondary school, teaching kids about English. The need to teaching makes me really want that job, and I want it fast before September comes.

Let's just hope and pray for there will be a miracle....

Well, coming back to the topic, I cannot stop uttering the word Alhamdulillah (all praises to God) once I have gotten my results for my last semester in Asasi TESL. Truthfully, I never felt worried or put up any hopes or expectations on it, considerably that I thought I did my best. The only thing I'm worried about was I probably won't get my results because I haven't paid my college fees for this semester. ^^"

All in all, around 12.30 am, Friday the 15th, I finally got my e-mail from the university with the results. The least thing I could do is to hope that I broke my own record from last semester (3.61).

Alhamdulillah..... syukur,... blessed be God Almighty!

I passed! 3.65 for my GPA. Thank heavens for everything! Then I eyed through the subjects - I got B+ for Grammar, and B for Literature - the only odd ones from the whole. I supposed I deserved that B considering I didn't submit my reflective essay on Flowers for Algernon. Why? Because that task was given the day before our final dinner. Only 24 hours before the big night! Well, I did informed my classmates about it, and they might have followed the order and did the task, but I didn't. ^^"

(So much of a class rep, huh?)

For most of you do not know, in UiTM (and maybe in some other universities as well), once you got 3.5 and above for your GPA (Grade Point Average), you are more than qualified to be in the Dean's List (DL). You can also observe the score chart on the bottom right of the picture.

This checks out another requirement for my admission to B.Ed TESL in UiTM. Next stop, MEdSi test and interview (which may happen next week). Wish me all the best! ^^

A Freshman's Guide to Asasi TESL UiTM [Semester 2]

Hello dear readers.

This is the continuation of a previous post regarding Asasi TESL UiTM. So here it goes.

P/S: If you haven't read the Semester 1 Guide, go and check it out here. Click on this link. And yes, it's another long post for you, so brace yourselves okay? Here we go.

*Second semester starts on early December the same year you entered the first semester, and ends on mid April the following year.

1) College registration

Now, before you leave after having your final exam in the first semester, you will need to fill in an online college registration form to make sure that you get a room for your next semester studies. If you fail to fill in this form, you will probably have problem getting a room.

Talking from my own experience, I'm not sure if I filled my form or not, but I had a problem getting a room for myself for the second semester. So, when the results of our college registration came out, mine wasn't. So I had to fill in an appeal form and I have to wait about a week after registration day.

During the registration day, I forced myself to stay at my friend's room for a while as I wait for the appeal result. The result came out a week later, and thank God I got a room with my other batch mates. So the moral of the story: don't forget to fill in your online college registration form.

2) Allowance

As I said in the previous post, you will be given allowance for both semesters - around RM 2,000. But unfortunately, you will not get the money as soon as you check in for the second semester. Give it about a month or so, then you'll have them. But spend them wisely. Prioritize your expenditure and budget.

3) MUET Result

If you have taken your MUET test in November, you should have your result around January the following year. But if you haven't take yours in November, you can still register for March test in January. But this time, you're on your own as most students have already done theirs in November, so you should plan your MUET test wisely - you can choose your own place of choice to do the test, either near the college you're staying or back at home.

4) Subjects for the semester & studying issues

Including the four core subjects that you've learned during the first semester plus the Islamic Education Studies, in which you will learn part 2 of the subjects in this semester, you will have 8 subjects altogether. They are:

  • Language & Drama
  • Introductory Literature
  • Basic Principles of Education

In my opinion, this semester's subjects are a bit relaxed and fun, especially Language & Drama and Introductory to Literature. All in all, you have 26 credit hours per week.

In semester 2, previous classes will be mixed and rearranged, either randomly or according to your final exam results. But don't worry, you can still meet each other later, maybe in mass lecture classes.

Assignments?

College Reading (TSL012) - Still with the journal reviews like last semester, plus you'll be focusing on new reading skills topics.

College Writing (TSL022) - New topics will be writing a summary, using the citation method and two more types of essays to learn.

Listening & Speaking (TSL032) - Pretty much the same like previous semester, a lot more materials on the pronunciation part. You will be also doing two types of speeches in class: informative speech and demonstrative speech.

Grammar (TSL042) - More grammatical rules and tenses to learn.

Language & Drama - In this subject, you will learn a novel called 'The Inspector Calls' and also learn more on drama skills. You will have to perform two types of dramatic performances: individual and group performance (also known as Readers' Theatre)

Introductory Literature - In this subject, you will learn about short stories and poems.

Basic Principles of Education - If in last semester you learn how to study, this one will teach you.... how to teach! You will be also required to perform a survey/interview with teachers from secondary school, and do a presentation of your own research comparing schools in Malaysia and other countries.

Islamic Education Studies (CTU082/084) - Pretty much the same as last semester, with hafazan and Qur'an recitation, along with presentation and sharing sessions.

For Language & Drama and Introductory Literature classes, you will spend about 3 hours each classes. Usually drama classes begins in the afternoon at 2 pm and ends at 5 pm, while literature classes are either the same method as drama classes, or split into 2 sessions: a 2-hour class in one day, and a one-hour class in another day.

Here are some of my own speeches and performances for the subjects:

5) Schedule, procrastination, self-confidence

It is important to know that in this semester, there are more materials and stuff to do. So you better prioritize and consider what's important and less important than the rest. Use the study skills that you've learnt in the first semester.

Avoid procrastination. You have 2 speeches, 2 drama performances, a whole lot of presentation, and more assignments to do. It is wise to say that this semester, it tackles your ability to speak in public and be more outspoken than in last semester, especially at the very end of the semester before study week where you have everything crammed on a week and you have to submit everything by the very end of that week.

Don't worry if you're anxious or scared to death speaking in public. I have lots of classmates and friends from other classes that are shy and anxious. But at the end of the day, it's you who determined your grades. Consider the drama class: this subject have no final exam - the grades are accumulated from your individual performance up to your Readers' Theatre performance. So you will have to be brave and ready to accept what people think about you when you're speaking on stage or in front of a crowd.

6) Pre-graduation dinner

Most probably after your final exam, you will have your very own pre-graduation dinner. It is a one-night event where you will be together for one last time before ending your foundation programme.

But knowing that the future intake will be moving to a new campus in Dengkil, there may be a 'Malam Asasi' or foundation dinner for all foundation students. No matter what it is, have fun on that night, take many pictures and create lots of memories about each other. You will never know if you're going to meet them again in the degree programme.

7) MEdSI test

One last thing to worry after you have ended your foundation studies (well, other than your final exam grades), is the MEdSI test.

What is MEdSI test?

MEdSI stands for Malaysian Educator Selection Inventory Test. You will need to answer a set of 300 questions - more like a personality quiz, to test your ability to become a teacher.

You won't be able to know how much you got correct or wrong. You will only know if you pass the test once you are called for TESL degree interview.

And that's all folks - your guide to Asasi TESL UiTM for the second semester. I hope that I have pointed out as much as I can about this semester. I will always update this post whenever I have something to add. Till then...

Finally done with Asasi TESL!

Assalamualaikum and hello peeps!

Well, it has been a week since I finished my foundation year. At last! FREEDOM!!!!

Although, I am starting to miss everyone now.

Well, we had a great year being together, and to wrap things up, we had the best night ever! Our Pre-Graduation Dinner! Kyaaaa~~!

So on Tuesday (7/4/2015), we had our grand dinner at the Sri Bestari Banquet Hall, Intekma Convention Centre and Resort, Shah Alam. It was a splendid evening, filled with balloons and colourful stuff. That night was given the theme "classical and elegant". So we expected everyone to be in their best suits and dresses, and they did.

Everyone was so handsome (for the gentlemen) and beautiful (for the ladies). The VIPs were the Dean of the Faculty of Education accompanied by the esteemed administrators, our lecturers from both semesters, not to forget Ms Melissa, the Head of Asasi TESL Programme, and also a few honourable guests.

The night kicked off with the singing of the national anthem and Wawasan Setia Warga UiTM, followed by du'a recitation and a remarkable speech by our president, Virtuoes. His words were still lingering in my mind as well as among our friends.

Last words from our president, Virtuoes Romana Maruning.

Then, the Dean also gave a speech to express his gratitude and congratulate the students for finishing their foundation studies.

After all the formalities, dinner was commenced! Great meal indeed, that night. Everyone was enjoying themselves and having fun, taking pictures and selfies. There were also performances by our friends like singing and dancing (Kpop - Asrul and his friends danced to Good Boy!) and also award, certificates, plaques and token of appreciation giving ceremonies.

"Night Changes" by Syafiq (BD)

"Set Fire To The Rain" by Nadiah

Poem recitation by Amira Jeffrey (my classmate!)

An energetic dance performance by Asrul and his friends! I am a good boy! ^^

A farewell song for everyone by Syafiq Sahak, Eizlan and Farid Farhan.

After all that, we had a speech given by Ms Mel. Then, a few montages were screened, reminiscing the great times we had over the year. It was so emotional and nostalgic. Finally, once the dinner had ended, everyone took photos! I guess words aren't enough to tell the stories, so here are some pictures during the memorable night.

Azwan performing his one last act as the Frog. Also, he won the Best Actor Award!

Aishah - Best Actress Award! Marvelous! Both from 020P2D!

Zahin and Aqilah were magnificent as the formal emcees.

A reunion family photo with my beloved 020P1E!

It gets better with our favourite lecturers, Madam Adzura was there too!
Madam Shireena also insisted to be there too!

The Best Dressed Couple! Both from 020P1E!

Lovely Diva Meyna and Dr Shireena!

Azwan & Aiena

The Back Benchers of 020P1E. Irfan actually smiles!
Ohhh.... just by looking at those photos makes me want to cry. I miss everyone so much! Well, I guess we'll see each other again, hopefully, in September. So, what should I do for the next 5 months? We'll see......

As Virtuoes said in his speech:
"Until we meet again"
"I don't have friends here. I have brothers and sisters"

How to Make Maggi Pizza - Demonstrative Speech

Assalamualaikum guys.

As you can see by the title itself, this is my demonstrative speech as part of my assignment for the subject Listening & Speaking II.

For this semester, this subject requires you to prepare and present two speeches: namely demonstrative (showing how things are done, or the process of doing something) and informative (informing people just about anything you want) speeches.

Don't worry about the audience. You just have to do it in front of your classmates. No big deal, right? Well, apart from peer pressure and whatnot.

For demonstrative speech:

You'll be given 7 minutes to do everything that you wish to do in front. Depending on the lecturers, if you exceed the 7 minutes, you'll either have to conclude everything and step down, or just stop where you are and leave the stage. It depends.

Knowing that it's only 7 minutes, you will need to do something simple, easy, fast, yet satisfying and attractive. Nothing fancy though, just normal, typical, unexposed, practical things.

Other than that, you already how to write a speech, how to deliver it, and how to be confidence. I'm pretty sure you all have covered, nay, mastered that part, right? :)

Well, that's all for now. I'll brief you guys next time about informative speech.

Individual Performance - 020P2D Asasi TESL 2014/2015

Hello everyone...

So last Thursday, we had our individual drama performance in Angsana Hall, Faculty of Education UiTM Seksyen 17 Shah Alam. A little bit backstory of this event: it is one of our compulsory evaluation for the Language and Drama subject this semester, which means we have to do it whether we like it or not. But of course, we do like it as we get to be ourselves and freely do whatever we want (anything decent lah) on stage.

And as I have mentioned in the previous post, there are 26 different stories written by each and every one of us where we have to perform on stage in front of everyone (including other classes). So, we were given three in-class rehearsals and almost a month of preparations. After each rehearsal, our lecturer will give us comments and suggestions to improve our play and that helps a lot (considering that he is also one of the best drama lecturer here).

Enough talking, let's check out some of the moments we had that day.

Stage freight attacks everyone everywhere... including me.

After-show-compulsory-group selfie!

Weirdest Theory Ever!

Assalamualaikum. Hello guys.

So today I made a chain of tweets regarding our individual drama performances next week. Basically for our Language & Drama subject this semester, we have to come up with our own unique story to perform on stage individually. And that's what exactly happened.

26 different stories, some share the same concept of either modern or gory interpretation of childhood fairytales, an adaptation of video games while some stick to usual, ordinary storytelling. Well, most of us choose to do monologue. It seems neater and cooler.

With only a few days before the real performance to be assessed and analysed, I have created the weirdest theory ever that we as classmates are somehow intellectually connected.
