Readers' Theatre Final Performances - 020P2D Asasi TESL 2014/2015

Hello everyone! It's already the end of the semester! Kyaaaa~~~!

I am so glad that I finally finished my classes and lectures for this whole wickedly tiring and challenging semester, thus the end of my foundation program. Well, there's another week for final exam (in which I should get ready to study and all, but instead I'm writing this post) and I can't wait to attend this one glamorous event at the very last day I'll be in UiTM.

Coming back to the main subject here...

So, last Wednesday [25/3/2015], we had our Readers' Theatre final performance in Angsana Hall, Faculty of Education UiTM Seksyen 17 Shah Alam. For those of you who do not know what is Readers' Theatre, here's a definition given by Wikipedia:

1. Readers Theatre or Reader's Theater is a style of theater in which the actors do or do not memorize their lines. Actors use only vocal expression to help the audience understand the story rather than visual storytelling such as sets, costumes, intricate blocking, and movement.

Readers' Theatre is part of our compulsory evaluation for the subject Language and Drama this semester. It's the second part of our activity; the first one would be individual performance. I wrote about it in the previous post. Link is here.

While the individual performances solely rely on each student's stories and characters, Readers' Theatre is more to a group work. You are being placed in groups among your classmates and either given a script by your lecturer, or have to search or make your own. In our cases, we were the former.

We had three in-class rehearsals and multiple practices outside the class. We had our practice almost everywhere: in colleges, in other people's faculty (Faculty of Engineering, thank you so much for lending us your complex), in our own faculty compound, under the trees, inside classrooms.... Phewww it was so tedious, frustrating and tiring too. But at the same time, we had so much fun, exploring different kinds of perspectives towards the story as well as developing characters suitable to convey the story.

Well..... I didn't expect those faces. Hahahahahaha

For your information, there are 5 groups in our class and 5 different scripts and plays. Originally, we were to act out the original script, but seeing the endless and limitless possibilities to alter reality, we were granted the privilege to 'screw up' a bit the original script, and came out with lots of gimmicks, witty puns, naughty ideas and hilarious ad-libs and jokes.

I was super happy and satisfied with each other's performance. Everyone was the bomb! I hope the audience were happy watching us. The other classes were great, too. Their stories, their actions, their costumes, their characters - totally awesome!

And that's all for today folks! We've come to the end of this Asasi TESL program. Just another week to strive for our final exam and off we go, 5 months of nothingness until September comes and we come again for our degree program of our choice, hopefully.

News for Asasi TESL Intake 2015/2016

Update (15/5/2015):

Hello there! I have a new update regarding the placement of Asasi TESL 2015/2016 students. As you may know, it is written on your letter that you are given the names of a transit / temporary campus, and a permanent campus.

I have seen this matter before during my time, but it occurred to the Art & Design students (in which their permanent campus is the Puncak Alam campus). But up until now, they have spent 2 semesters in Shah Alam, probably due to the delayed completion of Art & Design campus there.

Some of my friends have brought this matter to the attention of our head of programme (Ms Melissa Malik) and she gave us a short but definitive response regarding this:

Hear ye, hear ye... I bear some news for you humans.

How's it going? Great? Good? Well, keep it up folks. Right now, I'm at the final week of my second semester. Almost there. I could barely see the finish line at the end of the road. By early April, I would be finishing my Asasi TESL program. Phew....

Recently, I've been repeatedly asked and inquired by questions concerning this program. And I must say, I'm proud of myself to be able to write something that people can refer to. During my time, there were like not much references or blog posts that I can use as reference.

I can say that lots of people are interested to be in this program. I can see why would they make that choice: it's a fast lane, another way out from the mainstream science and all those mumbo-jumbo subjects and just pure interest. Well, there's more to that, kids. And as you can see by the title, I have some news (not sure if it's good or bad) for the freshmen.

First Month - Asasi TESL Sem 1 (June 2014 - December 2014)

June 1st, 2014 marks the first day I stepped into the campus life and earned myself the right to become a pre-degree student. I am taking TESL course for 2 semesters in UiTM Shah Alam. That day, I went to Kolej Perindu to register and met my fellow roommates at room 2402. The first week was spent as orientation week also known as ‘Minggu Destini Siswa’.

How to Make Maggi Pizza - Demonstrative Speech

Assalamualaikum guys.

As you can see by the title itself, this is my demonstrative speech as part of my assignment for the subject Listening & Speaking II.

For this semester, this subject requires you to prepare and present two speeches: namely demonstrative (showing how things are done, or the process of doing something) and informative (informing people just about anything you want) speeches.

Don't worry about the audience. You just have to do it in front of your classmates. No big deal, right? Well, apart from peer pressure and whatnot.

For demonstrative speech:

You'll be given 7 minutes to do everything that you wish to do in front. Depending on the lecturers, if you exceed the 7 minutes, you'll either have to conclude everything and step down, or just stop where you are and leave the stage. It depends.

Knowing that it's only 7 minutes, you will need to do something simple, easy, fast, yet satisfying and attractive. Nothing fancy though, just normal, typical, unexposed, practical things.

Other than that, you already how to write a speech, how to deliver it, and how to be confidence. I'm pretty sure you all have covered, nay, mastered that part, right? :)

Individual Performance - 020P2D Asasi TESL 2014/2015

Hello everyone...

So last Thursday, we had our individual drama performance in Angsana Hall, Faculty of Education UiTM Seksyen 17 Shah Alam. A little bit backstory of this event: it is one of our compulsory evaluation for the Language and Drama subject this semester, which means we have to do it whether we like it or not. But of course, we do like it as we get to be ourselves and freely do whatever we want (anything decent lah) on stage.

And as I have mentioned in the previous post, there are 26 different stories written by each and every one of us where we have to perform on stage in front of everyone (including other classes). So, we were given three in-class rehearsals and almost a month of preparations. After each rehearsal, our lecturer will give us comments and suggestions to improve our play and that helps a lot (considering that he is also one of the best drama lecturer here).

Enough talking, let's check out some of the moments we had that day.

Weirdest Theory Ever!

Assalamualaikum. Hello guys.

So today I made a chain of tweets regarding our individual drama performances next week. Basically for our Language & Drama subject this semester, we have to come up with our own unique story to perform on stage individually. And that's what exactly happened.

26 different stories, some share the same concept of either modern or gory interpretation of childhood fairytales, an adaptation of video games while some stick to usual, ordinary storytelling. Well, most of us choose to do monologue. It seems neater and cooler.

With only a few days before the real performance to be assessed and analysed, I have created the weirdest theory ever that we as classmates are somehow intellectually connected.

Now, it's 2015 and I am very looking forward to this year as there are so many things I would like to do and to achieve in my life. One of them is updating my blog frequently, or at least once a month. I need to have the effort of voicing out my own opinions and thoughts as well as improving my English day by day.

Enough talking about me, now we come straight to the point. So I decide to kick start this year by watching one of the most trending movie of last year that got people talking about it all around - Terbaik Dari Langit (TBL).
